Lower Shabelle, Somalia – A Somali federal lawmaker has sounded the alarm following a deadly clan-related attack in the Lower Shabelle region that claimed at least 13 lives.
Federal MP Dahir Amin Jesow, who represents the affected constituency, confirmed that five others were critically injured in what he described as a retaliatory vendetta between rival groups.
Speaking to local media, Jesow condemned the killings as “unjustifiable and cowardly,” urging those responsible to surrender before facing “serious consequences.”
“This is not just a crime against individuals — it is a crime against our community and our future. We will not allow impunity. Anyone involved must come forward before the government takes decisive action,” he warned.
The lawmaker called on security forces to intervene immediately to prevent further escalation, amid fears of renewed violence. Clan disputes over land, water, and political influence remain a persistent trigger for conflict in southern Somalia, particularly in rural areas like Lower Shabelle where state presence is limited.
Community elders have reportedly begun mediation efforts, but residents say tension remains high.
Jesow urged both elders and government authorities to work together to stop the cycle of revenge.
“Justice must be done through law, not through the barrel of a gun,” he insisted.
The incident adds to growing concerns over rising violence in the region, where militants, clan militias, and criminal groups often exploit power vacuums. Authorities have yet to release further details on suspects or arrests.
