Multiple mortar attacks were reported in Dhusamareb as the conference on elections talks kicked off on February 1.
The mortar attacks rent the air on the first day of the talks between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
Most interestingly, the mortar attacks were reported despite assurances from the government that security had been tightened in the city.
The National FGS-FMS Conference on elections will run from February 1-3.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble arrived in Dhusamareb earlier in the day.
Farmaajo and Roble were spending their first night in the city when the mortar attacks rocked the peaceful night.
It is not yet clear who was responsible for launching the mortar attacks on Monday night.
Nevertheless, authorities have launched investigations into the matter to identify and bring the culprits to book.
