The new African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has taken over officially.
Brig. Gen. Peter Gaetano Omola assumed leadership of the Ugandan contingent of ATMIS on December 20.
He takes over from Brig. Gen. Keith Katungi.
Brig. Gen. Katungi has completed his one year of duty in Somalia.
Omola took over from Katungi officially after a brief handing-over ceremony.
Brig. Gen. Katungi had been in Somalia previously serving in different capacities before departing to go back home.
He served in Somalia in 2012 and 2015.
The handing-over ceremony took place in Mogadishu under the supervision of Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, the commander of Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) land forces.
