New CMO Appointed to Combat COVID-19 in Somalia

Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Fuje is the new Chief Medical Officer appointed by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre to supervise the fight against COVID-19 in Somalia.

On Saturday, the Federal Government of Somalia announced that it was accelerating efforts designed to defeat the pandemic.

Dr. Fuje studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the Somali National University before joining London University’s School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Somalia confirmed the first COVID-19 case in mid-March when two people returned to the country from China.

Since then, the Horn of Africa nation has reported 135 cases and 5 deaths hence the decision by the government to appoint Dr. Fuje to steer the war against Coronavirus.
