New Evidence Shows US Drone Attack in Somalia Killed a Teenage Girl

An investigation by Amnesty International has discovered that a recent drone attack in Somalia caused the death of a teenage girl. The airstrike took place last month in southern Somalia.

Furthermore, Amnesty International’s investigation encountered the girl’s grandmother and two younger sisters who were injured during the attack.

The incident happened while the family enjoyed their dinner in late February. They were at their home in the Al-Shabaab controlled town of Jilib.

According to relatives, Al-Shabaab militants were nowhere near their house at the time the drone attack took place.

The dead girl was identified as Nurto Kusow Omar Abukar. Her father, a 50-year old Somali called Kusow Omar Abukar survived the attack.

At the time, AMISOM had announced that the attack was successful. It said, “Our forces killed a terrorist in today’s drone attack at Jilib. No civilians were injured or killed.”

Despite the latest findings by Amnesty International, AFRICOM has not changed its initial assessment and statement.
