Senior Al-Shabaab Terrorists Seeking to Surrender to Somali Government

MOGADISHU — The Minister of Defence for the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has revealed that high-ranking members of Al-Shabaab are establishing direct contact with authorities to negotiate their surrender.

According to the Minister, these senior figures are signaling a desire to accept government amnesty following the systematic loss of their traditional strongholds.

Loss of Safe Havens

Minister Fiqi attributed this internal fracture to the continuous pressure exerted by the Somali National Army (SNA) and international security partners. He noted that the group’s leadership is facing a crisis as they lose refuge areas that were previously considered secure.

“Senior Al-Shabaab terrorists are approaching us, looking to surrender and seeking amnesty following the loss of their secure locations,” Minister Fiqi stated.

Rehabilitation Initiatives

The Minister reiterated that the Federal Government remains prepared to accept any individuals who reject extremist ideology. He emphasized the availability of established rehabilitation and amnesty initiatives designed to facilitate the reintegration of defectors into society.
