Dhusamareb, Somalia – May 14, 2025 — The Ministry of Livestock and Forestry Range, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), officially handed over a newly established fodder value addition facility to the community in Dhusamareb today.
The project is aimed at enhancing sustainable and resilient livestock production in the region.
The handover ceremony was attended by FAO Representative to Somalia, Etienne Peterschmitt, alongside officials from the ministry and local community leaders.
The new facility is designed to improve the availability and quality of animal feed, which is critical for increasing livestock productivity and supporting pastoralist livelihoods in Galmudug State.
“This centre will help strengthen fodder production, promote local value chains, and ultimately build the resilience of pastoral communities against climate shocks and drought,” said Mr. Peterschmitt during the event.
The initiative has been supported by Denmark, with special thanks extended to Danish Embassy in Somalia for their continued support in Somalia’s recovery and development efforts.
This fodder centre marks a significant milestone in the government’s broader strategy to build climate resilience and food security through improved natural resource management and sustainable agriculture practices.
