New Regulations Imposed in Somaliland’s Telecommunications Industry

Somaliland’s Ministry of Telecommunications has announced a new set of regulations that all stakeholders in the industry must adhere to.

The regulations, which were announced on Saturday, require all players to be organized and licensed appropriately.

Furthermore, the government now expects players within the industry to register all SIM cards and set up telecommunication towers.

Abdiweli Abdilahi Sufi Jibril, the Minister of Telecommunications, made this announcement yesterday at a function attended by various government officials.

According to Jibril, the new set of regulations is for protecting investors and consumers alike.

Abdiweli also reminded stakeholders of the government’s commitment to introduce light-handed policies that allow businesses to flourish.

He also reassured investors that the government would continue removing barriers to investment while introducing new services.
