New Somali Foreign Minister Sworn in

The new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Abdirizak, has been sworn in.

Abdirizak was sworn in by Mohamed Mursal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, November 25.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble appointed the new minister last week.

He replaced Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad, who was sacked after dismissing a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing support for the Ethiopian government.

The ministry supported the move by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to launch an attack against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

After the ministry issued the statement in support of Ethiopia, Ambassador Awad responded by saying that the statement was not official.

With the swearing in complete, Abdirizak is now expected to assume his duties immediately.
