NHPCS Pushes for Faster Hospital and Staff Registration in Somalia

Mogadishu, Somalia — In a major step toward strengthening healthcare oversight, the Secretary-General of the National Health Professional Council of Somalia (NHPCS), Dr. Mohamed Adow, and his deputy, Dr. Amina Sh. Hassan, held a crucial meeting with representatives from public and private hospitals across the country.

The gathering focused on accelerating the registration process for healthcare institutions and professionals, a move aimed at improving the quality and accountability of Somalia’s health services.

Dr. Adow emphasized the need for unified standards in hospital operations, stating that “a streamlined registration system will help ensure that all facilities and staff are certified, competent, and capable of delivering safe, reliable care to the Somali people.”

Discussions also centered on building stronger collaboration between the NHPCS and health service providers, with the council offering technical support to help institutions meet compliance standards.

Dr. Hassan highlighted the urgency of the initiative, noting that better-regulated healthcare is critical to restoring public trust and strengthening the national health system after decades of disruption.

The NHPCS reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and pledged to ease bureaucratic bottlenecks that have previously slowed the registration process.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to a national healthcare framework that prioritizes patient safety, professional ethics, and transparent oversight.
