Halima Ismail Ibrahim, the Chairperson of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) has traveled to Dhusamareb for the ongoing talks with regional leaders.
Federal leaders, specifically President Mohamed Farmaajo and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, are also expected at the meeting.
Prime Minster Khaire has been in Dhusamareb for the last one week.
Reports indicate that President Farmaajo is scheduled to turn up for the meeting after officials from his office – including his security team – arrived at Dhusamareb ahead of him.
Ms. Ibrahim is expected to hold a separate meeting with the regional leaders on the upcoming Somalia elections.
She will also meet with the two leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
Early this month, Ibrahim said NIEC believed the country was unprepared for the one-person-one-vote polls initially scheduled for November 2020 and February 2021.
The regional leaders also supported her stance and recommended an alternative model, which they called “politically negotiated polls” or indirect elections.
