No agreement has been reached between the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Somaliland and three national political parties.
The parties have been meeting with the NEC with a view of discussing the dates for parliamentary and municipal elections.
However, despite their best efforts, they are yet to reach any sort of agreement.
The ruling party, Kulmiye, had proposed organizing the elections within the next six months, which contradicted NEC’s desire for hosting polls in 10 months.
Opposition parties never sided with either NEC or Kulmite.
President Muse Bihi Abdi has ceded to the demands to hold elections to replace Members of Parliament who have occupied their positions for over 15 years.
Elections are long overdue in a country where MPs have not been challenged in democratic polls for more than a decade now.
