On Saturday, an inferno broke out at a shop in Bondhere District in Mogadishu before reducing it to ashes.
However, authorities have not reported any casualty.
Witnesses say they tried to put the huge flames out using water but were unsuccessful. Despite their best efforts, the fire spread faster and reduced the shop and nearby structures to ruins.
Omar Said, the owner of the shop, said he has been experiencing problems with his electricity at his premises in the last few months.
He said, “I left the shop to eat breakfast. Upon my return, I was dismayed to see the shop up in flames.”
Residents said it took the intervention of the local fire department to put off the fire. They said the fire engine spent one and a half hours at the site.
Although the exact cause of the inferno is yet to be identified, Omar believes that a short circuit was responsible for the mayhem.
