The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) called for “peaceful coverage of elections” that are due soon.
On February 13, NUSOJ issued a statement to this effect while commemorating the World Radio Day, which is celebrated on this date each year.
In its statement, NUSOJ said that this year’s World Radio Day comes amid Somalia’s preparations to hold parliamentary and presidential elections.
It encouraged radio journalists to not only “dig deep in their hearts” but also “fulfill their professional obligations.”
Meanwhile, Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ’s Secretary General, mentioned the unbelievable difficulties that Somali journalists have put up with while performing their duties.
NUSOJ called upon journalists to be “innovative and connect with different communities around the country” while covering the upcoming elections.
Finally, it urged journalists across print and electronic media to “practice responsible journalism.”
