The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has condemned the shocking murder of a freelance journalist in Galkayo.
Unknown gunmen shot and killed Jamal Farah Adan, a 56-year old freelance journalist of great repute.
Adan was shot and killed on March 1 at night.
Reports indicate that two men attacked him in Galkayo, the administrative capital of Puntland state on Monday evening at around 6.45pm.
At the time, Adan was outside his family-owned shop in Siinay, one of the neighborhoods of Galkayo.
He was shot once in the neck and twice in the head.
Adan was rushed to Galkayo Medical Center for fast medical attention. However, the doctors pronounced him dead.
NUSOJ said that Adan had previously complained of receiving death threats from unknown persons.
He had been contemplating leaving Galkayo in fear of his life.
NUSOJ stated that Galkayo has turned into one of the most dangerous places for journalists.
Consequently, they demand immediate investigations into Adan’s death.
