NUSOJ Demands Protection for Journalists in Meeting with FEIT

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) demanded protection for journalists in the country during a meeting with the Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT).

NUSOJ held the meeting with FEIT on January 9, 2021.

On Saturday, FEIT held an engagement with representatives of the civil society organizations in the East African nation.

NUSOJ was also invited to take part in the talks.

While making its presentation, NUSOJ urged authorities to protect journalists, especially at a time when the country is preparing for elections.

Additionally, NUSOJ also urged FEIT to accord “unrestricted access to information” to journalists covering the elections.

The organization asked FEIT to implore the government to protect female journalists from Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
