The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) discussed the importance of protecting the rights of journalists with the Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender (OPHRD).
Discussion between the two groups took place on Saturday, November 21.
NUSOJ reminded officials from OPHRD that journalists encounter a myriad of threats in the course of doing their work in not only Puntland but also the rest of the country.
Consequently, NUSOJ urged OPHRD to be at the forefront of advocating for the protection of journalists rights to allow them to do their jobs effectively.
NUSOJ agreed to cooperate with OPHRD to “defend the physical and legal safety” of journalists in the region.
