NUSOJ Partners with UNPF to Train 336 Journalists on SGBV

National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), partnered with the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), to train 336 journalists to report on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

The last batch of journalists was trained in Garowe, the administrative capital of the semiautonomous state of Puntland.

NUSOJ and UNPF organized the training jointly with the Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development (MoWHRD).

The training took place in six workshops all over the country for the journalists.

These workshops were in Mogadishu, Galkayo, Baidoa, Garowe, Beledweyne, and Kismayo.

The first workshop took place in July 2020 with each workshop lasting three days and involving both male and female journalists.

Each workshop targeted 40 Somali journalists.

However, more journalists showed up than the 40 targeted in each workshop hence leading to the successful training of 336 of them.

NUSOJ said that it hopes more journalists around the country have received skills enabling them to report on SGBV professionally and accurately.
