NUSOJ Representatives Discuss Sexual Offences Bill with Speaker Mursal

Representatives of National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) discussed the Sexual Offences Bill (SOB) with the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The leadership of NUSOJ, a body that represents the interests of journalists in Somali, visited Speaker Mohamed Mursal at his offices in Mogadishu on October 11.

The SOB has been in parliament for ages and the leadership of NUSOJ wanted to understand the reasons for delays in debating it.

Additionally, they also discussed the importance of protecting the freedom of information, which Somalis and all journalists are entitled to under the new constitution.

NUSOJ’s leadership urged Speaker Mursal to encourage parliamentarians to pass SOB to not only prevent but also respond to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
