OCHA Renews Calls for $1.4 Billion Humanitarian Response Plan for Somalia

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has renewed calls for $1.46 billion Humanitarian Response Plan for Somalia.

According to OCHA, over 7.7 million Somalis in the country need humanitarian assistance.

Specifically, OCHA targets 5.5 million people through this appeal.

Research by the global organization discovered that Somalis are currently grappling with several problems that worsen the humanitarian situation.

These include COVID-19, failed rains, drought, and the recent floods.

Insecurity stemming from attacks that Al-Shabaab forces carry out in Somalia has also worsened the situation further.

Consequently, OCHA has appealed to international partners to come to Somalia’s assistance.
