OCHA Says 5.98 Million Somalis Will Need Humanitarian Assistance in 2025

The humanitarian needs in Somalia are expected to see a slight decline in 2025.

The latest report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) shows that around 5.98 million people are projected to need assistance, down 13% from the 6.9 million in 2024.

Despite the decrease, the situation remains severe, and aid efforts are still essential.

Humanitarian partners plan to target 4.6 million people in 2025, which is an 11% reduction from the 5.2 million targeted in 2024.

This shift may reflect both an improvement in certain conditions and a need to prioritize resources for the most vulnerable amid limited funding.
