The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that over 7,250 Somalis have been displaced from Las Anod.
OCHA issued a statement dated October 14 on this matter.
Somaliland authorities evicted thousands of Somalis from the region over the last few weeks.
The Somaliland authorities seemed to target Somalis from southern and central parts of the country.
That’s according to the findings of the Protection and Return Monitoring Network (PRMN), which is part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
In PRMN’s findings, over 3,300 people displaced from Las Anod have arrived in Galkayo from October 2 when the forcible eviction commenced.
PRMN announced that 986 of these people then made their way onward to Southwest State.
Others traveled to HirShabelle and Banadir too.
OCHA is now concerned over the plight of the helpless evictees.
In its report, the evictions and displacements have caused separation of children from their parents.
Child abandonment has also multiplied exponentially while the loss of property has reached unimaginable levels.
