Ohio has elected its first-ever Somali-American lawmaker.
Munira Abdullahi, a Democrat, created history by becoming the first American of Somali descent to win a seat in the Ohio Legislature.
She ran unopposed in the elections held on Tuesday, November 8.
The 26-year-old Abdullahi, who serves as a youth director, also becomes the first Muslim woman to represent her constituents at the Ohio Legislature.
She was elected in a city that has the second-largest population of Somalis in the United States.
