One of the most prominent religious leaders in Somaliland has defected to the Al-Shabaab militia group.
Sheikh Aden Sunne, a highly respected religious scholar, broke this news to the public on March 21.
Sunne broke this news during an interview with BBC Somali Service.
During the interview, Sheikh Sunne informed BBC Somali Service that he hails from a region that is under the control of Al-Shabaab.
He informed the interviewers that he fled from Hargeisa.
In Sheikh Sunne’s words, authorities in Hargeisa had repeatedly arrested and detained him on the flimsiest grounds.
