One person died when a boat transporting them sank near Marka, a coastal town located over 100kms away from Mogadishu.
At the time, the boat was transporting the passengers to Mogadishu.
An eyewitness said the boat developed problems and started sinking with all the 11 passengers on board.
The eyewitness claims that one person died on the spot while eight others were rescued. However, two other people have not been found.
The incident comes at a time when the country has been experiencing heavy floods from the recent downpours.
The floods and the intense rainfall have made most roads leading into and out of Marka impassable for several days thus forcing travelers to use boats.
