Opposition politicians have accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of seeking to undercut Prime Minister’s efforts at solving ongoing electoral impasse.
On March 2, the Council of Presidential Candidates Union responded to news that Farmaajo has planned an event for Thursday this week.
The event would be falling on the same day that the opposition is scheduled to have a follow-up meeting with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
Prime Minister Roble met with the opposition politicians for the second time in five days on Monday evening.
Later at night, a statement from Villa Somalia announced that Farmaajo would provide details on the electoral talks at an event set for Thursday in Mogadishu.
In the opposition’s view, Farmaajo’s event is proof of his desire to undercut the important role Roble is playing in solving the months-long impasse.
The candidates have advised the Prime Minister, regional state leaders, and the international partners to dissuade Farmaajo from holding his event.
