Opposition politicians have urged outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to hand over power to a Transitional National Council.
On February 26, the Council of Presidential Candidates Union released a press statement on Farmaajo’s tenure.
As per their statement, the candidates said that Farmaajo’s term had expired on February 8, 2021.
Therefore, they said that Farmaajo remains in office illegally.
In their view, Farmaajo would have stayed in office legally through an agreement with the Federal Member States (FMS).
The presidential candidates said that FMS is the only government institution whose term has not expired.
Consequently, it is the only institution that would have allowed Farmaajo to remain in office after his term expired.
