Opposition candidates have warned the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) against extending President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s term.
Farmaajo’s term expires on February 8, 2021.
Consequently, the Council of Presidential Candidates’ Union (CPCU) issued a statement on February 1 asking the government to adhere to the dictates of the constitution.
President Farmaajo’s term expires in the next 7 days.
While reminding the government of its constitutional obligation, the opposition candidates also expressed gladness at the resumption of talks between FGS and Federal Member States (FMS).
A fresh round of FGS and FMS talks is scheduled to kick off from February 1-3.
FGS and FMS representatives are expected to meet in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug from Monday.
