Opposition candidates in Somalia have warned Members of Parliament (MPs) against extending President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s term in office.
The candidates, meeting as the Council of Presidential Candidates Union, issued this warning on April 12.
Their warning comes on the day when the Lower House lawmakers are scheduled to reconvene.
Somalia’s opposition candidates have repeatedly warned about Farmaajo’s plans to stay in office beyond his term, which expired on February 8, 2021.
The candidates advised lawmakers to allow the electoral talks to resume before extending Farmaajo’s term.
