The Forum for National Parties (FNP), the main coalition of opposition parties in Somalia, has called for inclusive talks on elections in the country.
FNP issued this call in the face of the ongoing talks in Mogadishu between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).
Initially, the talks were to feature President Said Abdullahi Deni and President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Puntland and Jubbaland respectively.
The two FMS leaders were scheduled to meet and discuss issues relating to the upcoming polls in the country with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of FGS.
However, they requested Farmaajo to invite other FMS leaders to Mogadishu too.
FNP believes the call by both Deni and Madobe is the right solution for the country. Reports indicate that Farmaajo has agreed to their demands to invite the remaining FMS leaders.
The coalition, which is led by Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, two former Somalia presidents, said the talks would only be beneficial if all leaders took part in them.
Further, FNP urged authorities to invite all stakeholders instead of focusing on politicians alone.
Ahmed and Mohamud stated their strong belief in the power of all-inclusive talks to avert possible political crisis occasioned by delayed polls in the country.
