The Forum for National Parties (FNP) has supported the call by the Speaker of Somalia’s Upper House on the formation of Somaliland’s polls committee.
Speaker Abdi Hashi issued a warning against the plans by the Federal Government of Somalia to select electoral commission members for the upcoming polls in Somaliland.
According to Speaker Hashi, the move was tantamount to interference in the electoral process in Somalia’s breakaway region.
On Monday, November 2, FNP issued a press release backing Speaker Hashi’s comments.
In its statement, FNP urged FGS to allow Somaliland to pick members to its own electoral commission.
FNP is under the leadership of two of Somalia’s former presidents, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
Mohamud and Ahmed are both expected to appoint one of them to vie against President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in the upcoming presidential polls in Somalia.
