Somali’s opposition parties met in Turkey on Wednesday evening and decided to merge into a single coalition ahead of the 2021 Somali Elections.

During the national forum, the parties decided to merge into one party. They also agreed to present one presidential candidate for next year’s elections.

Parties that were at the meeting include UDP Party and Hilimo Party under the leadership of Hassan Sheikh and Sheikh Sharif respectively.

Kulan Party’s Mohamed Siiri attended together with Horsocod Party’s Sharif. Mohamed Abdi Gandhi and Abdikadir Osoble representing Ilyes and Nabadda parties were present as well.

Furthermore, the parties agreed to hold elections in 2020 to elect the right candidate against Somalia’s President Farmaajo.

Meanwhile, a committee of twelve people will supervise the affairs of the new party and ensure that the merger takes place smoothly.
