Himilo Qaran Party, an opposition party in Somalia, has urged all presidential candidates in the upcoming elections to take part in a national debate.
Two weeks ago, a meeting between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States signed a deal on electoral modalities and other elections-related issues.
Under the deal, they all agreed to prepare for parliamentary elections in November 2020 and presidential polls in early 2021.
Senator Ilyas Ali Hassan, a member of Himilo Qaran, one of the parties forming the Forum for National Parties (FNP) coalition, has hinted at a presidential debate taking place soon.
He said that ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the coalition’s candidate in the upcoming polls, is ready for a joint debate with fellow aspirants.
In doing so, Senator Hassan has already confirmed FNP’s presidential candidate even though the coalition is yet to officially announce his candidature.
