Opposition Warns of Political Disintegration Over Somalia President’s Unilateral Moves

Mogadishu – Somalia’s main opposition alliance has issued a strong warning against what it describes as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s “unilateral decision-making,” cautioning that it could lead the nation toward political disintegration.

Speaking on Friday during the third day of a zoning conference in Mogadishu, opposition spokesperson Dahir Mohamud Gelle criticized recent actions by the President, including proposed constitutional amendments, which he said lack national consensus.

“The Somali people elected the President twice. He must not betray that trust,” Gelle told reporters at a press briefing. He called for an immediate rollback of all “one-sided” decisions and urged a return to inclusive dialogue.

The conference, attended by key opposition figures, is expected to conclude with a major gathering on Saturday night, signaling the bloc’s intent to mount a coordinated challenge to the President’s political agenda.
