Oromo Man Jailed 20 Years Ago Released from a Somaliland Prison

An Oromo man who was arrested and jailed 20 years ago by authorities in Somaliland has been released from prison.

Mohamed Muse Gamteesa was arrested and jailed as a 20-year old man.

For the past 20 years, he has not known any other kind of life apart from prison life.

In 2001, authorities arrested him over the murder of a fellow countryman in Hargeisa, the administrative capital of Somaliland.

Initially, he was to be sentenced to 8 years in prison.

However, the court extended his jail term by 12 more years after his family refused to respond to his request to be bailed out.

On February 27, Gamteesa was finally released from prison.

Gamteesa said that he wants nothing to do with his family, which abandoned and left him for dead.
