Members of the public in Somalia are outraged after a minister allied to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo leased public land to private entities.
Osman Abukar Dubbe, the Minister of Information under Farmaajo’s administration, leased land that belongs to the Somali National Theater.
Interestingly, the piece of land is near Villa Somalia, from where President Farmaajo operates.
A document dated July 27, 2021 shows that the information minister leased the land to a group of local businesspeople who run a catering business.
The mistake he did was failing to follow the proper laws.
Several people have expressed outrage at this move. In their view, authorities should now repossess the land and hand it back to the public.
Dubbe is yet to respond to the concerns raised.
