Over 6.9 Million Somalis Need Urgent Humanitarian Aid, Declares OCHA

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that over 6.9 million people in Somalia need urgent humanitarian assistance.

The latest OCHA report shows that these are the people in need of humanitarian aid in 2024.

According to the report that OCHA published on February 5, this is a huge drop from 2023 when 8.25 million needed humanitarian assistance.

Furthermore, OCHA reported that it has not classified any district as “catastrophic.”

Last year, OCHA classified 11 districts around the East African nation as “catastrophic.”

However, 24 districts are classified “extreme” and 48 as “severe.”
