The Upper House of Somalia’s Parliament has appointed a committee for the upcoming talks between Federal Member States (FMS) and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi of the Upper House announced the formation of the committee on Friday.
The Speaker said the committee’s mandate is to bring leaders of the two levels of government to the table for discussions touching on several issues.
Representatives of FMS and FGS are expected to meet towards the end of June 2020 to discuss issues that include the upcoming polls in October 2020 and February 2021.
Several leaders of the FMS states have expressed fears that the talks could take place too late to organize meaningful elections.
Speaker Hashi is part of the 9-member committee.
