Councilor Rakhia Ismail, the Mayor of Ilsington, has been stranded in Hargeisa since March 27 because of the partial lockdown the government has imposed in Somaliland.
Cllr Ismail traveled to Hargeisa to visit her family.
Since then, she has been unable to go back to Ilsington after the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) banned all domestic and international flights.
FGS took that bold decision to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
Cllr Ismail says she has tried to return to Ilsington countless times. Nevertheless, her efforts have not borne fruit because the airlines keep cancelling the flights.
The airlines say that they cannot fly at a time when the number of passengers has dropped considerably because of COVID-19 fears.
