Peace now reigns in Hiiraan region after talks between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) representatives and traditional elders.
On Friday, December 4, Muktar Hussein, the Minister of Interior, held talks with the elders and struck a deal with them.
He traveled to the region last week to discuss several issues that had enraged locals and pushed them into the streets.
Beledweyne, the administrative capital of the region, was one of the worst hit with protestors blocking roads and lighting fires.
They accused the government of manipulating the recent presidential elections in the region to ensure that a pro-Mogadishu candidate emerged victorious.
Since then, the region has been up in arms.
General Abukar Huud has led the armed protests, which now threaten stability in the region.
The elders also took the opportunity to hold talks with General Huud and his armed supporters in Elgaal village.
