The government of Somaliland has issued an edict banning people from Somalia from attending meetings held by international agencies in the country.
Further, the government announced a similar ban on individuals and civil society organizations who would like to travel to Somalia to attend workshops by international agencies.
In August 2020, President Muse Bihi Abdi’s administration sent official statements to all agencies in Somaliland informing them of this development.
This development is partly because of the growing schism between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
The upcoming elections in Somalia have also worsened the situation further with authorities in Somaliland believing that they would only cause more divisions.
