Plans are underway to provide Somali Police Force (SPF) with state-of-the-art DNA samples and forensic laboratories.
This was announced when top SPF officers from the forensics unit held discussions with their colleagues from the Turkish Police.
The meeting between them took place on Tuesday.
Currently, Somalia has to send samples abroad. This often leads to delays in carrying out investigations or providing the justice its people crave.
The new labs would enable police to undertake effective and thorough investigations of serious crimes anywhere in the country.
