PM Barre Confirms Plans to Visit Las Anod Soon

Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has announced his intention to visit Las Anod, the administrative center of the SCC-Khatumo region.

He emphasized that this visit is not aimed against any Federal Member State.

This statement was made during the official handover ceremony between the outgoing Defense Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, and the incoming Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Haji.

The SCC-Khatumo administration, based in Las Anod, has been actively seeking dialogue to resolve ongoing conflicts in the region.

In December 2024, SCC-Khatumo leaders expressed readiness to engage in peace talks with Somaliland to address longstanding disputes.

Prime Minister Barre has previously engaged with SCC-Khatumo elders to discuss the situation in Las Anod.

In May 2023, he met with traditional leaders from the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions, collectively known as SCC-Khatumo, to emphasize the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The federal government’s involvement underscores its commitment to facilitating dialogue and supporting efforts toward stability in the region.
