PM Barre Inaugurates Youth Summit While Pushing for Merit-Based Recruitment

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre officially opened the 6th Youth Leadership and Innovation Summit in Mogadishu, delivering an inspiring message to the country’s young generation.

During his speech, Prime Minister Barre stressed that empowering youth and nurturing their innovative capacities is a vital national objective. He encouraged young Somalis to unite and stand together, cautioning against the destructive effects of tribalism that impede national advancement.

The Prime Minister unveiled major reforms concerning public sector employment. He revealed that the government is completing legislation to transform the hiring process. Going forward, all government roles will be allocated through an open, competitive selection grounded entirely on competence and expertise, providing fair chances for all citizens.

“To make progress, you cannot remain content with your current position. You must implement change and creativity. If you aspire to lead, you must serve as a role model to others and advance your nation’s growth,” Prime Minister Barre said while addressing the youth present.

Discussing leadership and nation-building, the Prime Minister prompted the youth to “stretch their intellects” to develop constructive concepts and to foster a profound faith in their nation. He mentioned that prosperous countries are frequently developed by the foresight of several people who introduce innovative perspectives. He highlighted education, persistent inquiry, and determination as the foundations of achievement.

Wrapping up his address, Barre motivated the youth not to dread the future but to mold it actively. He urged them to control their own destiny by engaging completely in the nation’s electoral and democratic procedures.
