Mogadishu, Somalia – Police have arrested several suspects believed to be involved in a deadly robbery spree and the brutal killing of Colonel Abduqadir Igal, a senior Somali National Army officer, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
According to police spokesman Abdifatah Aden Hassan, the arrests followed days of coordinated operations in various districts of Mogadishu. The suspects are linked to a wave of armed robberies that have gripped the capital in recent weeks, culminating in the cold-blooded murder of Colonel Igal.
“Several individuals connected to these heinous acts have been apprehended. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement,” said spokesman Aden. He added that more suspects are being pursued and vowed that the police would “not relent until all those behind this violence are brought to justice.”
The murder of Colonel Igal, who was gunned down in broad daylight, has sparked public outrage, with residents expressing frustration over the deteriorating security situation. Many are calling on the government to urgently address rampant crime, particularly in Mogadishu’s densely populated neighborhoods.
In response, authorities have pledged to launch more “intense and targeted” security operations across the capital. “We understand the public’s concern. We are stepping up our efforts and adapting our tactics to restore law and order,” said Aden.
Colonel Igal’s death marks a grim reminder of the ongoing challenges Somalia faces in curbing violence and protecting its citizens amidst a fragile security landscape.
