The Chief of Somaliland Police Force (SLPF) has apologized to the female journalist who was recently beaten by police officers.
Brigadier General Mohamed Aden Saqadhi issued the apology to Hoodo Gareys, a local journalist who was beaten when she went to report an issue to the police.
Gareys and her mother, Suleekha Aqil, were beaten at a police station.
Initially, police responded to the matter by saying that Garays had ignored their orders and behaved improperly.
However, Brig. Gen. Saqadhi said that police should handle complaints from the public in a much better way.
Further, he promised to institute investigations into the matter.
Earlier, Brig. Gen. Saqadhi had hosted Garays and her mother who went to visit him over the issue.
He apologized for the incident that took place at Mohamud-Haybe Police Station in Hargeisa.
Saqadhi told the journalist that police would foot all medical expenses incurred from the treatment they sought for the injuries.
