An opposition party in Somalia has accused members of the country’s police force of shooting at a Mogadishu home of a former president.
On Wednesday, police fired shots at the home of Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, one of the country’s former presidents.
Himilo Qaran Party’s official, Abdinasir Mohamed, said police were seen shooting directly at Sheikh’s home.
The incident took place at a checkpoint that is used to secure Sharif’s residential home in the country’s capital.
Mohamed said, “Police officers opened fire at the residential property while on a pickup. They fired at soldiers guarding our party’s offices in Mogadishu.”
The official clarified that soldiers guarding the property restrained themselves from responding to the clear provocation.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Suleiman Mohamed admitted that police officers opened fire at the soldiers though he insisted that the incident was not deliberate.
