A spokesman for the Somali Police Force (SPF) has blamed elders for the increasing killings committed by security officers in Mogadishu.
In the recent past, police officers and government soldiers have killed several civilians in the nation’s capital.
On September 2, Abdifatah Aden said that the killings will not stop as long as elders remain partisan.
Aden, the police force’s official spokesperson, accused elders of paying blood money to have the accused set free.
In his view, the only solution to this would be a presidential decree banning such practices.
He asked the Somali President to issue a decree banning the payment of “diya” since that is the best solution for ending police killings in Mogadishu.
