President Bihi Launches Voter Registration Exercise in Somaliland

Reports from Somaliland indicate that President Muse Bihi Abdi has launched the voter registration exercise in the country.

Bihi’s administration launched the exercise on Wednesday, November 4.

The registration exercise comes ahead of the scheduled local council and parliamentary elections in Somaliland.

A directive from the Office of the President said that the exercise is scheduled to officially kick off on November 29, 2020.

Parliament has been in session since 2010 when it was elected.

Somaliland held its last local council and parliamentary elections in 2010.

Since then, the country has been unable to hold further elections because of protracted disagreements between Kulmiye Party, the ruling party, and the opposition.

It is not yet clear how many prospective voters are eligible to register once the exercise kicks off later this month.
