President Musa Bihi Abdi has chaired the first cabinet meeting in Somaliland through video conferencing.

During the meeting, Bihi led his cabinet in discussing COVID-19 preventive measures that the government has imposed or introduced to curb the spread of the deadly disease in the country.

Omar Ali Abdilahi, the Minister of Health, issued a report indicating the ongoing efforts and the level of preparedness the country has taken to curtail the spread of the virulent disease.

Abdilahi said that his ministry prioritizes public safety. He also indicated that the health ministry is working closely with the National Committee for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response.

Abdirahman Sayli’i, the country’s Vice President and the Chairperson of the Committee for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response, also stressed the fact that the country is on high alert.

On his part, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire, said COVID-19 has impacted the country’s budget 2020 forecasts.

Consequently, the finance minister asked the cabinet to prepare the country for an economic downturn.

President Bihi is expected to chair more meetings via video conferencing now that COVID-19 seems to be ravaging the country further.
